Tradition meets vision.

A review of the most important milestones of our company.

1959 – 1992 | Foundation and first successes as a sea freight forwarder

Under the company name Peter Wittwer GmbH & Co. KG in the 1950s, the first successful business is founded as a freight forwarder in Stuttgart. After a few years, Peter Ege takes over the management of the company. He continuously expands the international business over the next forty years. On business trips to the USA, he establishes his first contacts with the local agricultural machinery industry in the Midwest and successfully recruits them as customers.

In the mid-1980s, the company is divided into two companies. Peter Ege continues the business of the company: Internationales Transportkontor Ege GmbH in Stuttgart. Peter Steinmüller begins his career in the company at the end of the 1980s.

1993 – 2000 | Beginning of the Steinmüller era

Peter and Bettina Steinmüller take over Internationale Transportkontor and change the name to EgeTrans Internationale Spedition GmbH. The head office is relocated from Stuttgart to Marbach am Neckar. In the beginning EgeTrans had seven employees. The focus is on the expansion of the transatlantic business.

In the mid-1990s, just-in-time production continues to gain in importance in the economy. This also means that flexible logistics is becoming more and more important. To satisfy this new market demand EgeTrans starts to develop competencies and expertise in airfreight handling. A specialized airfreight department is founded and after just a few years EgeTrans Internationale Spedition GmbH becomes an IATA agent.

2001 – 2012 | Expansion of the business area

In order to better serve customers on the North American continent, the subsidiary EgeTrans USA, Inc. is founded in Chicago in 2001 with five employees. EgeTrans now offers logistics services on both sides of the Atlantic, resulting in the continued growth of the transatlantic business. Just one year later, EgeTrans USA, Inc. becomes a licensed Customs Broker and can now handle all import and export customs matters. In 2012, EgeTrans USA, Inc. also receives the IATA license.

Meanwhile, the management in Germany is concentrating on expanding the service portfolio in the direction of supply chain management. Logistics services for all aspects of the supply chain, such as order management, online services, and logistics consulting, are offered to customers. EgeTrans expands continuously with its customers into other markets and forms independent departments in which specialists personally look after the needs of the customers.

2012 – 2016 | Departure into a new business future

With the acquisition of the naming rights for the multifunctional hall in Bietigheim-Bissingen, EgeTrans enters into sports sponsoring. The EgeTrans Arena in Bietigheim-Bissingen is the new sporting home of the hockey team Bietigheim Steelers. The 1st handball team plays in this location regularly as well.

Over the years it becomes apparent that the EgeTrans headquarter is no longer sufficient to support the company's continuing growth. The planning of a new modern office building on the banks of the Neckar River in Marbach begins as early as 2012. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new building takes place in 2015.

At the same time, the management initiates a brand-profiling process with the goal of developing a new concept for the EgeTrans brand and strategically aligning the company for the future. The cornerstones of the corporate identity will be defined and the corporate design further developed and modernized.

In November, construction of the new administration building on the banks of the Neckar in Marbach is completed and all employees are united under one roof. The modern building physically represents the corporate identity of EgeTrans.

Marcel Steinmüller is appointed Managing Director of EgeTrans at the end of 2018. He represents the next generation of logistic experts, who give new impetus without forgetting the roots of their own company. Today, the company employs around 250 employees worldwide.
