_______

The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) is initiating the implementation of CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) a multi-year initiative to modernize the collection of duties and taxes on imported goods.

Purpose of the CARM implementation
The purpose of CARM is to modernize the process of collecting duties and taxes on goods imported into Canada. The CBSA is seeking to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the import process, which will ultimately benefit both importers and the trade community as a whole.

Mandatory registration
Before CARM comes into force on May 13, 2024 it is mandatory for all importers to register. This registration is a critical step to prevent significant delays and potential difficulties when importing into Canada. The responsibility for registration lies with importing companies alone and cannot be transferred to third parties.

Consequences of non-registration
Companies that do not register by May 2024 will have to pay all costs incurred in cash. It is in the interest of importers to complete the registration process early to ensure smooth imports and thus a smooth flow of their own logistics chain.

The role of EgeTrans
In this context, EgeTrans may only act as a transmitter of this message. Although we can assist you with the registration, the responsibility for the registration process lies with the importing company. EgeTrans will continue to take care of all previous and subsequent steps in importing your goods into Canada to ensure the continuity and reliability of import activities.

We recommend that all importers confront the upcoming changes without delay and register in order to proactively drive forward the introduction of CARM.
