Verified Gross Mass (VGM)

With the start of the SOLAS amendments on July 1, 2016 carriers are not allowed to load containers on vessels without determined and declared VGM: no VGM, no load.

According to national regulations it is not necessary for companies to have ISO 9001 certificate when determining VGM using method 2. But it is necessary that upstream activities that lead to VGM determination occur according to defined and documented process description. At the time of writing (June 23, 2016) Germany, France and Ireland allow this procedure.
