Environmental sustainability at EgeTrans

EgeTrans reduces its ecological footprint.

At EgeTrans, we are aware that in the logistics industry we have to deal with emissions. For this reason, we have been aiming to minimize our ecological footprint for several years. In our core business, as a freight forwarder we are ultimately dependent on our partners' modes of transport. However, we exert influence by advising our customers appropriately and planning the logistics process at an early stage. A well thought-out consolidation of goods also helps to reduce emissions and saves costs on the side.

Further steps to minimize emissions
Many years ago, we have made the digitalization of processes our business objective. The "paperless office" is only one of them and is becoming more and more a reality in everyday office life. In 2019, our paper consumption fell by 50% compared to the previous year. The sensitization of the employees and the equipping of the workplaces with a second monitor have helped us to achieve this goal. Further processes, such as the digital processing of incoming invoices, were added in January 2020 to support this goal.

Since 2019, Ecosia has been the default search engine in our browsers. Through our search queries, we help plant trees around the world, thereby helping to protect the environment.

Ecological building standards at the highest level
Our newly built administration building meets the latest ecological standards. Heating and cooling is done with ground water. There are two wells on the property, which carry water at a constant temperature of 8 degrees Celsius. In summer, this is used for cooling and in winter for heating with an air-source heat pump. So-called grey water, which is collected in cisterns, is used to supply our toilets with water and to irrigate the garden.

In our company restaurant ATR/UM we have checked the packaging materials for the offered meals at the request of our employees. Plastic packaging was replaced as far as possible. To-go cups are now only issued at extra charge.

What does the future hold?
For some years now we have been noticing a change within the logistics industry. Investments in sustainable technologies aimed at reducing emissions are increasingly being made. One example of this in the shipping sector is the International Maritime Organisation with IMO2020. We are confident that science will produce new approaches and technologies. At EgeTrans, we will not lose sight of the issue of sustainability in the future and will continue to make our contribution.
