New Regulations for Cargo Descriptions on U.S. Imports.
- Logistics

The U.S. government has issued strict regulations for customs manifests in regards to import shipments as already mentioned in the report “US Customs and Border Protection introduces the sending of freight messages“ issued on June 10th, 2025.
As of September 27th, 2025, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has started to stop cargo from loading in case of noncompliance, i.e. in case the cargo description on cargo manifests and Bs/L is not matching the requirements.
Even though forwarders and carriers are checking the documents while handling the shipments, it is mandatory for shippers to ensure that the correct terms are used and the regulations are observed.
Amongst these are the following:
Terms like FAK (Freight All Kind) or S.T.C. (Said To Contain) are not to be mentioned any longer, but instead the correct cargo description is required. To ensure smooth operation and avoidance of additional costs or delays, the correct terms and detailed cargo information should be mentioned on all packaging lists and commercial invoices.
