Strikes in the Ports of Zeebrugge, Antwerp and Rotterdam
- Logistics
Due to strikes in the ports of Zeebrugge, Antwerp and Rotterdam, there are currently significant delays in the handling of import and export containers.
Although some terminals in Zeebrugge and Antwerp are partially continuing operations, vessel traffic has been heavily affected since March 9, 2026. Currently, more than 60 vessels are waiting outside the Port of Antwerp to enter, while over 40 vessels are waiting to depart. At present, it is unclear how quickly the situation will return to normal.
In addition, a nationwide railway strike in Belgium from March 9 to March 11, 2026 led to numerous train cancellations, further impacting hinterland transport operations.
In Rotterdam, stevedoring companies are currently on strike, which has also caused delays in port handling. Despite a partial resumption of unloading and loading operations, a significant backlog has developed. At this stage, it is also unclear how quickly the situation in the Port of Rotterdam will normalize.
