Trump Delays Reciprocal Tariffs to August 1, 2025
- Logistics
On July 7, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order postponing the implementation of country-specific reciprocal tariffs from the originally scheduled July 9 to 12:01 a.m. ET on August 1, 2025.
According to the Executive Order, the delay is based on “additional information and recommendations from various senior officials,” particularly regarding the status of trade discussions with partner countries. The suspension applies to sections 9903.01.43 through 9903.01.62 and 9903.01.64 through 9903.01.76 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which will remain paused until August 1.
The separate suspension for China, established under Executive Order 14298 (May 12, 2025), remains unchanged.
According to a White House fact sheet, the tariffs – ranging from 25% to 40% – are set to apply to imports from 14 countries starting August 1, unless trade agreements are reached. Affected countries include the European Union, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Bangladesh.
Additional Copper Tariff Announcement:
On July 8, President Trump also announced a plan to impose a flat 50% tariff on all copper imports, citing national security and the protection of domestic industry. No specific implementation timeline has been provided yet.
