Western European Ports on Strike

15.10.2025

The ports of Zeebrugge, Rotterdam, and Antwerp are currently facing significant delays caused by ongoing strikes.

The Belgian ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge have been affected by strike action from harbor pilots since October 5. In addition, a nationwide strike has been announced for October 14, which is expected to further disrupt port operations.

Although the pilots’ organization BVL has temporarily suspended its actions in Antwerp from October 15 to the morning of October 24, it remains unclear how quickly the situation will improve, as more than 100 vessels are currently waiting to enter the port and over 60 vessels are waiting to depart.

The Port of Rotterdam has also experienced strike action by lashing companies across all terminals since October 8. The lashers were ordered back to work on October 13, however, because a backlog has developed, it is uncertain when operations will return to normal.
